How to Get Pet Urine Out of the Carpet

Of all of the pet stains, urine is perhaps the hardest to get out of the carpet. You want to not only soak up the liquid, but you will need to get out the scent as well. Here is what you need to do to get this pet stain out of the carpet:

1. As soon as possible, place paper towels on the carpet and step on them (wearing shoes, of course) to soak up as much liquid as possible.
2. Mix a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Pour it on the stain and use a scrub brush to work it deep into the carpet.
3. Again, use clean paper towels to soak up the mixture.
4. Once dry, lightly cover with baking soda.
5. Mix ½ cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and pour on the stain. Use the scrub brush again.
6. When dry, vacuum up the baking soda.

Why this works: The vinegar neutralizes the ammonia in the urine which takes care of the smell. The baking soda and peroxide will bubble and draw out the stain. The soap will grab a hold of it so you can soak it up.

How to Get Pet Vomit Out of the Carpet

When Fido’s dinner does not agree with him, you are likely going to see it again. The acid in vomit can quickly stain, so you want to clean it up as soon as possible.

1. Use a dustpan to remove the larger chunks.
2. Blot up the rest with paper towels.
3. Mix, ½ cup white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap with 2 cups of warm water.
4. Using a soft cloth or sponge, wash the soiled area. Repeat if necessary.
5. Once the stain is gone, rinse with clean water.
6. Blot dry.

How to Get Old Pet Stains Out of the Carpet

This article is fine and dandy for new pet stains, but how about those stubborn old nasty ones? Try this miracle cure:

1. Pour enough white vinegar to soak through the stain.
2. Sprinkle with baking soda.
3. Cover the spot with a plate and let it dry for a day or two.
4. Sweep up the now nasty-looking baking powder.
